APRS in Central Missouri...
Tracker Assembly Info for the latest
trackers we put together
KM0R-3 is the digi (digital repeater)
that serves the Columbia area. It is located along I-70 inside
the Columbia city limits to have the best chance of catching mobile
traffic passing through the area as well as local traffic. The
digi antenna is up about 100' and uses a Kantronics KPC-3+ TNC
and a Yaesu FT-2600M radio. These items have served very well for
a number of years with no problems at all. The Columbia digi
no longer handles WIDE or RELAY in paths! Please use WIDE2-2
as a general rule for home stations. WIDE2-2 will get your
station heard in most of the Central Missouri area and easily to
the internet APRS-IS stream via the KM0R-1 IGate mentioned below. Paths
greater than WIDE3-3 are no longer supported either and will be
digi'd for a single hop only. This is to help cut down on
the excess amounts of APRS traffic. Since this change was
implemented at the Columbia and surrounding digi's, the APRS network
has had reduced amounts of traffic and it is now easier for mobile
5 watt stations to get their packets in. Please make sure
that you only run the power that you need to reach the digi from
your home stations! This will help those using the 5 watt
trackers in their cars get into tne network better by reducing
the problematic hidden transmitter!
Paths suported by the Columbia digi
are as follows:
RELAY has been replaced by WIDE1-1. (the main digis and another
fill-in digi support this path in Central Missouri)
WIDE is no longert supported... instead, please use WIDE2-1 for
the same result.
Recommended path for home stations,
WIDE2-2 or KM0R-3,WIDE2-1.
Recommended path for mobile stations
- WIDE1-1, WIDE2-1 or WIDE1-1, WIDE2-2 if you must have 3 hops.
2 hops from most anywhere in the
Central Missouri area should get your station heard by an IGate
and thus to the internet.
Update -
August 24th, 2006 -- The
KM0R iGate got an upgrade! Its now running on a much
faster server and running brand new software from Pete Loveall,
AE5PL. Pete was awesome in answering my questions while getting
this online! The software on the iGate is now running javAPRSSrvr
with the iGate adjunct. Also available now are custom filters,
you can see the port descriptions here. All
traffic on the server is now being stored in a database. As
I get some pages developed from this data, I'll announce them on
this site.
KM0R-1 is the IGate that serves
the central part of the state. It is located about 2.7 air
miles from the KM0R-3 digi. It runs on a server that
has access to a full T-1 to the internet. The IGate provides
connections to the APRS-IS stream from the local area. It
allows messages to flow into and out of Central Missouri from around
the world. It
automatically picks up any traffic destined for any station that
it has heard in the last 30 minutes and transmits it out via the
local digi.
This allows local users as well as travelling users to send
and receive messages to anyone on APRS around the world as well
as transmitting all the local traffic fromthe digi to the APRS-IS,
thus enabling local APRS traffic to show up on websites like FINDU or APRSWorld. The
IGate is available for local users to connect to via TCPIP as well. There
is a port list here describing
the different feeds available. Please
contact me via the contact page if you have any questions or problems
with the IGate.
